Travel || Our Trip to Kos

Alex and I have wanted to travel to Greece for years and decided that finally this year, we were going to book a holiday there. We were eager to explore and take beautiful photos like the handful I am sharing with you here, and even though it has not been long since we left the island of Kos - we are desperate to go back again soon.

We booked a hotel in Lambi, as this was the closest area to Kos town. We were told that there are stunning views and places to visit all around the island, which were also easy to get to if you wanted to hire a car or book a spot on the coach. As this was our first trip though, we wanted to stay around Kos town and explore as much of this spot as we could.

In Kos town there were many monuments, most of which were famous landmarks due to Hippocrates, the Greek Physician. We were more than happy to walk to each place but I highly recommend hiring bikes, this would make your explorations much less tiring and most of the locals travel to and from places by cycling, so you would not feel too much like a tourist when you're sightseeing - you'll fit right in. Lambi actually had many cycle paths for this reason. I even noticed that there were more cycle paths than paths for pedestrians... a bit of a hinderance for when we were walking, I must admit, but perfect for those that do decide to cycle (we are hiring bikes for the entire week next time!).

In the centre of Kos town was the harbour, which I must say was breathtakingly beautiful just before sunset. Surrounding the harbour were many bars and restaurants, meaning that we could watch the boats and the fishermen whilst we ate our meals. Further out from town (this is the day we hired bikes), is home to the marina where you will find many, many, many boats! I didn't expect to enjoy looking at all of the different types of boats, but it was really interesting to see. Situated next to the marina was also a little beach which was very photogenic... unfortunately our camera had run out of battery when we were here which is why I don't have any photos! If you do decide to travel to Kos town, I urge you to seek out the marina and beach, I loved spending the afternoon here.

Ah, the beach. Being completely honest this was the biggest downfall of the holiday. We didn't know this before we booked the hotel, but the beaches around Kos Town were mostly covered in stones. We couldn't sunbathe unless we used a sun bed, and we couldn't walk by the water because the stones hurt our feet too much. When we were told about Kos, we were informed that the other beaches around the island were much better, especially towards the other side. This is known as "Paradise Beach", again you can travel here by car or coach. However if you are like us, and desire a quiet trip, we were advised that this is where young people like to stay on their girls and boys holidays, and so would be very busy.

Apart from this I cannot name anything bad about the beautiful, scenic island of Kos. At first we were a little wary due to what we had heard on the news this previous year, but honestly there was no sign of what the media shared with us, so the trip remained peaceful and we did not have any worries throughout the rest of the week.

We visited a restaurant named "Broadway" which was voted #1 on Trip Advisor out of all the places to eat on the island! I can completely understand why, the food was delicious and was not expensive at all. Eating here, you get high quality food at a very good price, so I suggest eating here at least once... we ate here twice in a row...
The centre of town (home to the fruit market), has many cafes and landmarks, including a white church with a bright, sea blue roof. There were many buildings around that were so eye-catching I had to capture them with my camera - we couldn't walk too far without stopping to take our photos.

Our hotel was lovely, but I think it is all about preference and we are going to try somewhere different when we return to the Greek island. I would just advise you to do your research on Trip Advisor and choose the accommodation that is perfect for you.

If you're a cat lover like we are, you will love looking at all the cats that live in Kos town. Sadly they are all strays (as far as I'm aware), but I noticed they have been provided with space to live and play in. Near the harbour we found a large tree that was fenced off, which had a sign informing us that the tree was a home for the stray cats! Just behind the archway I took a photo of, there is a street of more restaurants, and to the right of that is another jungle-like area for the cats, which had ruins of buildings and plenty of trees for them to climb and run around in. From kittens to multi-coloured cats (unfortunately not rainbow coloured!), I'll be very surprised if your camera doesn't include at least one cat photo.

We loved our trip to Kos and already we are looking forward to returning, and even exploring more of the island. The shop and restaurant owners were friendly, the views were picturesque, the weather was hot and the getaway lived up to our expectations.

I hope you enjoyed my first travel post, and are already booking a flight to Kos! If not, you may have still enjoyed my post and looking at the photographs of clear blue sky and places to visit.

Thank you for reading!
